What is Playing for Success?

The Sheffield Wednesday Study Support Centre provides educational programmes to a wide range of learners. The well resourced learning environment provides opportunities for students to access the latest ICT technology; they can undertake a variety of interactive tasks which are very different to those offered in the school environment including film making, animation and music making.

Many children will also have the chance to work alongside professional sports people from the club. This provides added excitement and really brings their learning to life.

Why was my child chosen?

The decision to select pupils for the Playing for Success programme is made by schools. They will decide which children they feel will benefit most from participating in the sessions. Some schools use it as a booster to give pupils extra help with their literacy and numeracy skills.

Other pupils may be selected to give their confidence a boost, as a reward for doing well in school or as part of a gifted and talented programme. Essentially, the schools will decide who attends following discussions with the Study Centre.

If your child is chosen to attend, it’s important that they can make the commitment to turn up for the set number of sessions in the programme.

What do I have to do?
The pupils are transported to and from the Study Centre in a minibus that will collect them from and return them to a pick up point at their school. If a child is to be collected from the pickup point, the parent has a responsibility to turn up on time as, on occasions the minibus may not be able to stay with any uncollected children due to other pick ups.

At the end of the programme you will receive an invitation to a presentation event where we celebrate the work of all the pupils who’ve participated in the programme. Pupils receive certificates, folders of work and there are a number of special prizes.

Parents/guardians MUST complete a Pupil Information Form for children attending the Playing for Success programme. This form will provide us with information about emergency contact details, how the child will get home once the bus drops them off and also any relevant medical information which may be a consideration whilst they are in our care.
