What is PfS?

PfS stands for Playing for Success…. A name that was created to mix learning and sport together. The Study Centre is like a cool school! It has loads of the latest ICT equipment that you’ll be able to have a go at using.

It is based within the massive Hillsborough Stadium, home of Sheffield Wednesday. You will be taking part in Literacy and Numeracy activities with a twist! Have you ever used a PS2 or DS Lites as part of your numeracy lessons?

Have you ever interviewed a professional player or made a film with pictures you have taken on a ground tour as part of your literacy hour? Well here’s your chance to give it a go and improve your skills outside of school. Who ever thought learning could be fun hey?!

What kind of work do you get to do?

I
n literacy, you could be interviewing professional players or working alongside academy players. Making films, radio programmes and even comics based around your ground tours and interviews. How does designing and advertising your own Nike trainers sound? …. And all of this done using the latest IT technology.

In numeracy, you could get a chance to do things like Speed Stacking to work out your fastest and average times. Problem solving activities in the stands with co-ordinates and working out how many people can sit in one of our stands. Using games consoles in our sessions is popular too….. Maths games on the DS Lites and competing against your mates on the Play Station 2 with the eye toy to collect and handle some data! You may even get the chance to visit the club shop to do some work on profit and percentages.

What’s so good about it?

I
t can give you a chance to develop your skills in a relaxed, safe and friendly environment. You’d work in a smaller group and there’s plenty of people around to help you with the activities.

You can learn to do things in a different way to school. You’ll also get a lot of opportunities to work with the latest technology and improve your confidence using computer equipment.

You will also get to work with some great people… including real football players!
