The recent Study Centre celebration evening turned out to be a lucky one for Francesca who attended the centre during Spring term. Along with winning a special prize for her attitude and work she also won the raffle! Each celebration evening a shirt signed by the squad is raffled off in aid of The Children’s Hospital and again as was the case last time over £100 was raised. Centre Co-ordinator Mike Taylor said “The raffle is now a great part of our evening and one way in which the centre can support The Children’s Hospital. On top of that it is guaranteed that one of the children we have worked with will go away very happy, as tickets are only sold to adults who come with the pupils we have worked with.”

This Week In The Centre…

On Thursday 25th March the Study Centre had its Spring term presentation event. The evening celebrated the work and achievements of 80 children from 6 schools that attended ‘Playing for Success’ sessions between January and March. Pupils received certificates, digital copies of their work, a gift from the club shop and a set adult and child match tickets for the Bristol City game. In addition two pupils from each school won ’special awards’ with further goodies from the shop and cinema passes as prizes. All prizes and certificates were presented by Richard O’Donnell and Luke Boden who are great supporters of the Study Centre.

A big thank you to Luke and Richard for staying after the event for photos and autographs.

This Week @ The Centre (Week 18)

The Study Support Centre has had its programme affected by the weather as a number of schools closed during early January. When the pupils were able to get into the centre they have been working on an activity called ‘Wednesday Wages’. Pupil’ s have to watch a web based programme that gives the pupils an update on an imaginary player’s performanace that week. Each week the player gets bonuses for goals, winning, appearances and fines for incidents such as red cards and being late. The pupils record the data over ten weeks and calculate the player’s overall salary. After calculating the total the pupils can decide how they would spend it in an activity called ‘Footballer’s Lives’.

Sheffield Wednesday Study Centre held its very own Celebration event on the 10th December. Pupils from Deepcar St John’s, Meynell, Ecclesfield, Bradfield Dungworth and Coit primary schools all attended the event to celebrate their achievements this term. Pupils were joined by SWFC’s very own chairman, Lee Strafford and first team players, Leon Clarke and Richard O’Donnell who came along to hand out prizes to the children. The Study Centre would like to thank the club and everyone involved in making the celebration event a huge success and a very positive experience for our pupils this term.

This Week @ The Centre (Week 19)

One of the most pleasing experiences for the Study Centre is to receive positive feedback from children that come though the centre, parents/carers and teachers. Nick Hopkins, teacher at Deepcar St John’s (pictured) echoed some of the feedback we received from children, parents and carers at our celebration event. Nick said “The programme is a tremendously positive one for our pupils to be involved in, they enjoy attending and the celebration event is a fantastic way to finish off.” We look forward to another positive term beginning in Jnauary.

The celebration event held by the Sheffield Wednesday Study Support Centre in December gave the club the chance to congratulate all of the pupils involved in its Autumn programme. Many certificates, prizes from the megastore, cinema vouchers and match tickets were given out to the children who had worked so hard through the term. On the evening a goalkeeper’s shirt signed by the first team squad was raffled off to raise funds for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity. Over £100 was raised and one lucky pupil from Ecclesfield Primary School was presented with this extra special prize by club chairman Lee Strafford.
